Civil Engineering

Nichols provides civil engineering design and construction services. We conduct site surveys using global positioning systems or Leica total stations and perform civil design work using AutoCAD Civil 3D software to design and construct various earthwork structures.

We have prepared civil designs and monitored the construction of more than $2.5 million in earthwork projects since 2002, including commercial and industrial grading and storm water management plans, earthen berm water reservoirs, retaining walls and construction quality assurance inspections.

Civil Design

Nichols provides innovative solutions using the most up to date modeling software in order to maximize design and minimize time. Our site design and development will focus on client and project objectives within the Industrial, Commercial, Residential and Rural development areas.

Nichols Engineering department is proficient in the following areas:

Retaining Wall Design and Construction Monitoring

In conjunction with a geotechnical and slope stability study Nichols has engineered or has acted as the local area engineer for 3rd party retaining wall designs. This includes review of existing geotechnical information, design or review of an existing design and on-site inspections during the course of wall construction.

Water Reservoir Design and Management

Nichols has designed and managed the construction of multiple water reservoirs for Encana Corporation. Currently the reservoirs have ranged in capacity from 60,000 m3 to 500,000 m3 of water. This included preliminary geotechnical drilling, foundation and berm design, slope stability modeling, on site grade control and quality management, as-built surveys and design and completion reporting.

Storm water Management & Design

Nichols is capable of completing storm water management plans for proposed developments of any size. Using the program PCSWMM, Nichols is capable of delivering varying forms of storm water management. Anything from design and sizing of drainage system components for flood control to flood plain mapping of natural channel systems.

Municipal engineering involves the design, approval, and construction of civil engineering works. Nichols is committed to the creation of services that fulfill the fundamental needs of our clients such as providing a safe supply of drinking water, collection and treatment of domestic waste, collection and treatment of storm water, design and building of sidewalks, roads, parking lots, and all other related community amenities which enhance our standard of living.
